Extension: Regional Specialized Agent, Row Crops
Patrick Troy provides extension and education for North Florida farmers focusing on the agronomic crops of peanut, corn, soybean and small grains. In collaboration with the State Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Suwannee River Water Managemnt District, his programs include nutrient and irrigation scheduling that employ best management practices (BMPs) to keep farming productive while protecting water quality.
Using on farm demonstrations and research plots, he conducts varietal trials, surveys farms for disease and insect problems, and helps provide science-based solutions to daily challenges. With increase scrutiny on agricultural water use and quality, he is exploring and sharing new technologies such as variable rate fertility application and soil moisture sensing to help farmers implement these BMPs.
